An almost organic, high welfare Red Tractor Devon farm. Pasture fed retired Dairy Beef. Forest school. Camping. Rewilding. Tree planting. Wildlife.

Today is #environmentday. Since 2003 at Porsham we Today is #environmentday. Since 2003 at Porsham we have slowly increased the space we give to wildlife on farm. In 2003 we stopped topping the hedges allowing them to grow up and out. The cows have benefited from being able to graze the trees and shrubs in the hedges that adjoin their fields. The increase in biomass in the hedges allows small animals and nesting birds greater space for nesting and foraging. Some of our hedges are 5m in width. We’ve also planted some small areas of native trees and there are now 12 years old. Over the last two years we’ve coppiced some to allow light to reach the forest undergrowth. The cut wood has been left to rot down and this has enabled greater diversity in our woodland bugs and plants with space for saplings to grow. By having different species of trees growing at different ages the wood becomes more resilient and species rich in the wildlife it can support. #nature #farmingwithnature #speciesrichwoodland #insecthabitat
